Call the lab before your visit and confirm pricing. Many labs will quote a cash price that’s lower than what they bill Medicare, especially when you ask in advance.
Ask:
- “What is the cash price for CPT code [your code]?”
- “What is the Medicare-allowed price?”
- “If Medicare doesn’t cover, what will I owe?”
- “Will you provide pricing in writing before my visit?”
If they can’t or won’t quote a price, that’s a red flag — try the next lab on your list.
